Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a condition involving the formation of blood clots in the venous system. It includes deep vein thrombosis (DVT), where clots form in deep veins, usually in the legs, and pulmonary embolism (PE), where clots break loose and travel to the lungs. VTE can cause serious complications, including death. Treatment typically involves anticoagulant medications to prevent clot formation and manage existing clots.
