Varicella, commonly known as chickenpox, is a highly contagious viral infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV). It is characterized by an itchy rash of red spots and fluid-filled blisters that eventually scab over. Other symptoms include fever, fatigue, and body aches. Chickenpox is usually mild in children but can be severe in adults and immunocompromised individuals. Vaccination is the primary preventive measure.
