Thrombosis is the formation of a blood clot (thrombus) inside a blood vessel, obstructing the flow of blood through the circulatory system. Thrombosis can occur in veins (venous thrombosis) or arteries (arterial thrombosis). It can lead to serious conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism, and stroke. Risk factors include immobility, surgery, cancer, and certain genetic conditions. Treatment typically involves anticoagulant medications and lifestyle modifications.
