Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment that uses a photosensitizing drug activated by light to destroy cancer cells or abnormal tissue. The drug is administered and accumulates in the target cells, which are then exposed to a specific wavelength of light, producing a reaction that destroys the cells. PDT is used for conditions such as certain cancers, actinic keratosis, and macular degeneration.
