Keratinocytes

Keratinocytes are the predominant cell type in the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin. These cells produce keratin, a protective protein that helps form the skin’s barrier against environmental damage, pathogens, and water loss. Keratinocytes also play a role in wound healing and immune responses.
