Ileostomy

An ileostomy is a surgical procedure that creates an opening (stoma) in the abdominal wall to allow the small intestine (ileum) to pass stool directly out of the body. This procedure is typically performed when the colon or rectum is diseased or damaged and cannot function normally. Patients with an ileostomy need to wear a special bag to collect waste.
