Herpes Zoster (Shingles)

Herpes zoster, or shingles, is a reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, which lies dormant in the body after a person has had chickenpox. It manifests as a painful rash with blisters, often on one side of the body. Complications can include postherpetic neuralgia, which causes persistent pain even after the rash resolves.
